Festive weekend at the Open-Air Stage in Margaret Island

On August 20, Rybak Alexander violinist, the 2009 winner of the Eurovision song contest in Moscow, debuts in Hungary and gives a gala concert with the finalists of the Virtuosi (Virtzózok) show and the Hungarian star guest of the evening, Erika Miklós opera singer at the Open-Air Stage in Margaret Island. The weekend’s other special program is the world music concert of Chico & The Gypsies on 22 August, when Romano Drom provides the opening act.

Several exclusive programs await the visitors of the Open-Air Theatre in Margaret on the weekend of the Hungarian Constitution day. “By tradition, we offer numerous surprises to our audience on 20 August, so that we can make their visit to Budapest, Margaret Island even more memorable on this special national holiday. From 7 pm, guests are welcomed with drinks and music at the Water Tower, where the young talents of the Virtuosi (Virtuózok) ensure great ambiance. It is an important mission of our theatre to support any such initiation, as the world’s very first classical music talent show, since we encourage the artists of the forthcoming generation and thus build our future” – said Teodóra Bán, the managing director of the Open-Air Theatre (Szabad Tér Színház).

The Celebration Concert starting at 8 pm at the Open-Air Theatre in Margaret Island, featuring the young talents of the Virtuosi (Virtuózok), who have been giving successful concerts around Hungary since their victory in the show, as well as the stars of the evening, namely Erika Miklósa opera singer and jury member of the talent show, and Alexander Rybak Norwegian singer and violinist, Eurovision song contest winner, offer an exclusive program matching the occasion. The fireworks celebrating the national holiday are broadcasted live during the concert’s intermission.

Following a longer break, every finalist of the show will be on stage: Ivett Gyöngyösi, Dániel Ali Lugosi, Misi Boros, Zoltán Sándor, Mihály Demeniv, Bettina Tóth, Bianka Szauer, Dániel Foki, Ronald Rigó. Featuring: László Szlama and the Hegyvidék György Solti Band.

The main attraction of the concert is the performance of Alexander Rybak, debuting in Hungary. The young star first hit success in the world of music in 2009, when his song titled Fairytale won the Eurovision song contest in Moscow with the highest number of votes ever. Since then he gave concerts in several countries, appeared at the Nobel Peace Prize concert and received numerous honors and professional acknowledgement in Norway, Russian and Belorussia.

The artists and stars of the Celebration Concert have a significant number of fans and the organizers would primarily like to please them by ensuring personal meeting with the starts after the concert for photo shooting and autographs. The special Meet & Greet tickets are available in limited number for an additional charge at the website of Open-Air Theatre and ticket sales points. Discounted tickets for the concerts can be purchased at a fixed price.

The Theatre Boat Service runs to Margaret Island on a modified route on 20 August: it departs from International Dock nr. 3 at 5:45 pm, skips the stop at Batthyany square, and only stops at Dock nr. 1 at Szt Istvan Park and arrives from there to the theatre’s dock. The departure point is indicated with red signs and flags, tickets can be purchased on the boat too.

The celebration continues on 22 August 2015 with the world music concert of the world’s best guitar virtuosi on Margaret Island. The Gipsy Kings founder’s band, Chico & The Gypsies arrives to bring real Mediterranean atmosphere on stage.  The world’s most significant authentic crossover band gives a grand concert for the first time in Budapest. The opening act will be the nationally and internationally recognized Romano Drom, Hungary’s most successful Roma band. The band plays traditional Vlach-Roma songs in modern setting, with electrifying instrumentation. The concert promises to be a special one as two different musical worlds are introduced.
